In California, employers, including those in the construction industry, are required by law to have workers’ compensation insurance for their employees. This insurance covers any injuries or illnesses that may occur as a result of work. It provides medical care, temporary and permanent disability benefits, supplemental job displacement benefits, return-to-work supplements, and death benefits. It is worth noting that all active contractors in certain categories, including C-8 Concrete, C-20 Warm-Air Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning, C-22 Asbestos Abatement, C-39 Roofing, and C-61/D-49 Tree Service, are required to carry workers’ compensation insurance or a valid Certification of Self-Insurance, regardless of whether they have employees.
